Jim began his intersex advocacy work with the Intersex Society of North America (ISNA) in 1998 at the age of 21. Jim’s work with ISNA sent him across the country conducting workshops, delivering lectures, and offering his unique perspective as a survivor of a normalizing hormonal regimen and multiple cosmetic genital surgeries. In 2000, Jim was featured in the award-winning short film, XXXY. Later, he built a career outside of advocacy in the fields of book editing, media relations and bike messengering. In 2008, Jim came to AIC and with his extensive social networking, blogging, and media experience helped establish AIC’s media presence.
Jim’s also built bridges overseas. He was awarded a scholarship to be the lone North American representative at the world’s 1st International Intersex Organizing Forum in Brussels, September, 2011. The historic event brought together 24 activists representing 17 intersex organizations from all continents. During this gathering Jim pioneered the creation of the Law & Intersex Task Team (LITT) composed of intersex activists from South Africa, Argentina, Australia, and Ireland.
Finally, as a former youth activist himself Jim proudly coordinates AIC’s youth advocacy project, Inter/Act.
A Louisiana native Jim lives in Oakland, California.
